Gloucester, MA – On a perch overlooking the Annisquam River, we created extensive gardens and living spaces which surround a heavily renovated home. To our delight, the clients are enthusiastic gardeners, and in addition to luxuriantly planted spaces, we have provided raised parterre beds for cutting flowers and herbs. The program also included a greenhouse complex on the steep site, which we anchored with a Cape Ann granite footing, retaining wall, and reclaimed steps. We also repaired an existing very tall brick wall, which is a perfect backdrop for an England-inspired shrub and perennial border. A lush bioswale was installed in response to the site’s sensitive location and conservation requirements, a perfect opportunity for native plantings to enhance the view. An outdoor kitchen nearby was set in stone as part of as an entertaining space that shares this extraordinary view.
