HAMILTON – This wonderful old farmhouse was added to for a family with small children. The landscape was a clean slate with the exception of the circular asphalt driveway. As was typical in its day, the original part of the home is located very close to a busy street, and road noise as well as privacy issues were of concern to the clients. A symmetrical planting of crabapples, boxwoods, and hellebores flanking a bluestone walk and rustic stone walls created an entry sequence and separation from the driveway. Ultimately, the asphalt will be replaced with more traditional peastone, and trees and shrubs along the busy street have succeeded in buffering noise and creating a cloistered garden.
